IRAQ WAR – THE TROOPS
“This war has cost more than 3,000 American lives, thousands of seriously wounded, and hundreds of billions of dollars. We must have new leadership in the White House to ensure this never happens again.
…Under no circumstances should the U.S. again go to war as the result of a resolution that comes from an unelected, foreign body, such as the United Nations.” 1

HEALTH CARE: ROLE OF FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
“You take care of poor people by turning the medical care back into the system, where people have some choices… I say take care of these poor people. I’m not against that… long term you have to move toward the marketplace.  You cannot expect socialized medicine of the Hillary brand to work.”  2

TAXES: INHERITANCE TAX AND TAX CUTS
“Working Americans like lower taxes. So do I. Lower taxes benefit all of us, creating jobs and allowing us to make more decisions for ourselves about our lives…” 3
Conference Report on HR 4297, Tax Relief Extension Reconciliation Act, which would extend President Bush’s first term tax cuts through the end of the decade. Roll Call Vote #135, 5/10/06, Congressman Paul voted - YES

EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH
HR 3, Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, which would have amended the Public Health Service Act to provide for human embryonic stem cell research- utilizes human embryonic stem cells in accordance with this section (regardless of the date on which the stem cells were derived from a human embryo). Roll Call Vote #20, 1/11/07, Congressman Paul voted – NO

FEDERAL MARRIAGE AMENDMENT
Proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution defining marriage as solely between a man and a woman:  H.J. Res. 106, Roll Call Vote #484, 9/30/04  Congressman Paul voted – NO

“…It’s better to allow these things to be left to the state… to amend the Constitution is totally unnecessary to define something that’s already in the dictionary.” 4

IMMIGRATION
“This is my six point plan:

  • Physically secure our borders and coastlines…

  • Enforce visa rules.  Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law…

  • No amnesty...

  • No welfare for illegal aliens… taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.

  • End birthright citizenship... ” 5

HR 418:  REAL ID Act of 2005, would have increased security standards for obtaining a driver’s license, including prohibiting illegal aliens from obtaining them for federal ID purposes. It also would have reformed asylum laws, making it harder for terrorists to claim asylum and included provisions for completing the San Diego border fence. Roll Call Vote #31, 2/10/05, Congressman Paul voted – NO.

ROE v. WADE AND THE SUPREME COURT
“…Instead of viewing federal judicial nominees as liberals or conservatives, we ought to be viewing them as activists or originalists… the Constitution prohibits the federal government, including the federal judiciary, from doing all kind of things. Until we have federal judges who understand this, it matters little what political stripes or experience they bring to the bench…” 6
